Steve Greig, an accountant living in Colorado, shares his home with ten dogs, most of them senior citizens. In addition to his canine companions, he also cares for two cats and a variety of farm animals, including a charming pig named Bikini, two ducks, two pigeons, two chickens, and a rabbit.
There’s no doubt that Steve has a deep love for these creatures. His main focus has been adopting older dogs, who often struggle to find permanent homes due to their advanced age.
“I grew up surrounded by many animals,” Steve explained. “My parents, who were also animal lovers, always let me have whatever pets I wanted, as long as I could take care of them.”
When Steve moved into his own house, he had always kept three or four dogs. However, after the loss of one of them, his desire to help animals grew significantly.
“That loss really affected me,” Steve shared. “Even after a month or two, I still felt terrible. I realized that the only way I could feel better was if something positive came out of it—something that wouldn’t have happened if he hadn’t passed away.”
Determined to honor his late friend, Steve visited a nearby shelter and adopted the dog who had the least chance of finding a home.
“That’s how I brought home Eeyore, a 12-year-old Chihuahua with a heart murmur and some leg issues. And that was just the beginning of all the creatures I’ve cared for,” Steve recalled.
Of the ten dogs currently in his care, eight are his own, while the other two belong to his sister and a roommate.
“With ten dogs, most of whom have different diets, my typical day starts at 5 a.m., preparing breakfast for everyone,” Steve explained.
